COOS BAY, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) is offering an Outdoor Climbing Class this summer for all climbing enthusiasts.  The class will teach participants the necessary skills and safety standards to climb outdoors.  Course material will also discuss stewardship and challenging students to consider the impact of outdoor recreation on the outdoors.

There is one session of the course offered this summer, two weeks in length.  The class will culminate in a class trip to the Callahans, a climbing area near Roseburg.  Session dates are July 25 to August 6, with the field trip held the last day of class.

The class is instructed by Byron Bird.  Participants should wear athletic clothing, though high-cut running shorts are prohibited.  All other materials are provided.  The one-credit class is open to anyone wanting to attend, including those wishing to audit the class for no credit (50% audit discount on tuition rate).
