COOS BAY, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) has a new feature on their website designed to help people remove barriers preventing them from attending college.  The webpage, called Ready, Set, Restart, provides a variety of information and tools useful to those seeking to overcome barriers preventing them from successful completion of their education and individuals looking to attend for the first time.  Anyone can use the resource by going to www.socc.edu/restart.  Even those people not actively seeking to go to college can benefit from the many community resources.

The site offers details about academic probation, suspension for grades, financial issues, life changes, balancing life and education, transportation, conduct issues, disabilities, and transitional education.  There are special sections for those people over 50 and veterans.  Each topic offers links to college and other community resource information.

A “Frequently Asked Questions” section addresses subjects like leaving school without dropping classes and taking classes without applying for a certificate or a degree.  For example, the site will direct those who do not currently have the skills to attend college to the Transitional Education Program.  Residents in the college’s Student Housing on the Coos Campus have been given the site as an educational tool to help transition to their new homes.
